What is Body Panel Replacement? Does My Car Need it?

If you have found yourself at an auto body shop following an accident you may learn that your vehicle needs a body panel replacement. What this means is that the damage to a particular section of your vehicle's body is too great to be repaired, or it would be less expensive to simply replace the part then spend the time repairing it. Fortunately cars are made up of sections that can be removed and replaced should they become too damaged. These are the most common types of body panel replacements done at auto body repair shops.

Fender Replacement

The fenders are the sections of the vehicle that start at the front of the front doors, go over the forward wheels and sometimes wrap around the headlights. These are sometimes also referred to as front quarter panels.

Quarter Panel Replacement

Quarter panels are another term for fenders, however the often only refer to the back part of the vehicle. These start at the rear of the back doors (or just the rear of the doors if a two door vehicle) and go over the back wheels and sometimes wrap around the tail light assembly.

Door Replacement

If a door becomes damaged due to an impact there is a good chance it will need to be replaced because of the many moving parts and electronics that lie inside them on many vehicles.

Hood Replacement

A hood will need to be replaced if the dent it has received can't be popped out by a method such as paintless dent repair. If the hood is crumpled due to a frontal impact it may also need replacement.

Trunk Lid Replacement

If your vehicle is rear ended you'll like find your car needing trunk lid replacement. Trunk lids are generally fairly easy to replace and are readily available for most cars and trunks.

Bumper Replacement

Most collisions result in some sort of damage to the bumpers of your vehicle. If it is found that a bumper has taken a majority of the impact of the accident there's a good chance your vehicle will need a new one.

Body panel replacement is a viable option for body shops because many of these parts are readily available.
